Playback Bridge

Let VenueCue drive your DJ software.

The Playback Bridge is a small app that runs on the same computer as your DJ software. VenueCue talks to it, and it presses the buttons — load a track, play, cue, change the speed for teaching — and tells VenueCue what actually played.

It only listens on your own machine. Connecting needs a code you read off the Bridge, so nothing can touch your DJ software without you sitting at the keyboard.

After it downloads

  1. Open the downloaded file and drag VenueCue Bridge to Applications.
  2. Launch it. A small icon appears in the menu bar — that is the Bridge running.
  3. In VenueCue, go to Settings → Playback Bridge and click Connect, then type the code the Bridge shows you.

The Windows build isn't ready yet.

After it downloads

  1. Run the installer and follow the prompts.
  2. The Bridge starts in the notification area (you may need the ^ arrow to see it).
  3. In VenueCue, go to Settings → Playback Bridge and click Connect, then type the code the Bridge shows you.

You'll also need a way for the two programs to talk

Most DJ software has no way for another program to connect to it, so VenueCue talks to it the way a controller does — over MIDI. That needs a virtual cable between the two programs on your computer.

  • On a Mac it is already built in. Open Audio MIDI Setup, choose Window → MIDI Studio, double-click IAC Driver and tick Device is online. It ships switched off.
  • On Windows install loopMIDI (free), run it, and add a port. Leave it running — it does not start with Windows, so it needs starting again after a restart.

VirtualDJ users can skip this. VirtualDJ lets VenueCue connect to it directly, which also means VenueCue can see what is on your decks.

The Bridge checks all of this for you and tells you exactly what is missing — open its status page any time to see where it has got to.
